Pure Class A Triode Buffering in the Iconic X-Profile

The Musical Fidelity X-Tube is a pure Class A triode tube output buffer, built in the newly reimagined X-profile aluminium die-cast chassis. Designed as an intermediary stage between audio sources and amplifiers, the X-Tube breathes warmth, tonal richness, and natural musicality into both digital and analogue signal paths. It addresses a genuine limitation in modern audio chains: the output stages of many streaming devices, DACs, and budget preamplifiers simply cannot match the quality of the components downstream. The X-Tube solves this, providing a clean, high-impedance tube input and a stable, low-impedance output to drive even the most demanding power amplifiers.

Two E88CC Triode Tubes

At the heart of the X-Tube are two 6922/E88CC triode tubes — dual-triode types renowned for their low noise, extended bandwidth, and sonic refinement. The result is an exceptionally transparent buffer that adds the characteristic bloom and dimensionality of valve technology without colouring the signal.

Bypass Mode

An RCA bypass output allows direct comparison between buffered and unbuffered signal paths — useful for critical listening sessions and for evaluating the X-Tube's contribution to your system.

Versatile Source Compatibility

Works seamlessly with CD players, DACs, streamers, phono stages, and preamplifiers. The 470kΩ input impedance ensures minimal loading on upstream sources, while the <33Ω output impedance provides authoritative drive capability to any downstream amplifier.
